Advisory regarding Indian Passport


1. GENERAL: 

  • Your passport is a valuable document. It should always be either in your own custody or in the custody of a person duly authorized by you. If lost or destroyed, the fact and circumstances should be immediately reported to the nearest Indian Mission and to the local police. 

  • PLEASE KEEP A PHOTOCOPY OF YOUR PASSPORT IN A SAFE PLACE. WITHOUT THESE DETAILS ISSUANCE OF A DUPLICATE PASSPORT MAYBE DELAYED.

  • It is an offence under the Passport Act 1967 to give false information in the Application. Passport facilities can be denied on grounds of suppression of factual information, submission of false particulars, willful damage of passport and for making unauthorized changes in the passports.

  • Your passport can be impounded or revoked by the Govt. of India under the provisions of the Passport Act 1967 in which event you will have to surrender the passport to the nearest Indian Passport authority. 

2. TIMING:

  • Applications for all passport/consulate services are accepted between 09:30am and 12:30pm (on all working days except Friday for which the timings are 9:30am to 12 noon). The passport and other documents are delivered between 9:30am to 12:30pm and 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The High Commission observes a five days working week with Saturdays and Sundays being closed days. 3. MISCELLANEOUS :

 

  • passport, consular and visa services are rendered at the High Commission. A brief description of the types of services are listed below.


PASSPORT SERVICES

a) Issue of new passport : The applicant may apply for a 10 years passport in lieu of expired passport. An application for a new passport can be made one year before the expiry of the old passport. An ordinary booklet or a jumbo booklet maybe issued as per option expressed. 

b) Issue of duplicate passports (in lieu of lost/damaged passports) : Such requests entail a more detailed procedure and a longer processing time period.

c) Emergency certificates : A one way travel document which authorizes entry into India may issued to an Indian citizen whose passport has been lost, stolen or damaged.

d) Change of name : Consequently on marriage/divorce name/surname maybe changed on an application.

e) Change in date of birth : A primary requirement for an application to be processed is a copy of a court order issued by a judicial officer in India, not below the rank of a first class magistrate.
