World Hindi Day 2019 celebrated in Brunei Darussalam

High Commission of India in Brunei Darussalam organised the World Hindi Day 2019on 28 February 2019 in the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah School (YSHHBS), the prestigious local school run by the Royal Foundation. This was the third edition of WorldHindi Day organised in the school. 24 Student and 5 faculty members participated in the event by reciting poems, singing songs and dialogues from Bollywood films. 16 students and faculty were selected for their outstanding performances and were presented with cash awards. All the participants were also presented with certificates and books. Over 425 students and faculties were present during the event.








Apart from the performances by the 6 finalists and 5 faculty members, a group of Indian dancers from Bandar Seri Begawan Indian Association (BSBIA) performed a classical Indian dance. The event was attended by Pengiran Datin Paduka Hajah Hairani bintiPengiran Maharaja Lela Pangiran Muda Abdul Kahar, Honourary Member of YSHHBS asGuest of Honour; High Commissioner of India, HE Ajaneesh Kumar, as Chief Guest; HajiMohammad Soffi bin Orang Kaya Wijaya Haji Awang Abdullah, Deputy Chairman of the parent-Teacher Association; Awang Yusof bin Amba, Secretary of the Parent-teacher association; A representative from Ministry of Education, Government of Brunei Darussalam;the Principals of Secondary, Primary and Kindergarten sections of YSHHBS.








In his speech, the High Commissioner mentioned that World Hindi Day is celebrated each year to popularise the use of Hindi language around the world. He also conveyed his appreciation for the high-quality performances by the students of YSHHBS which reflected the enthusiasm and work which went into their preparations.
