High Commission organises  “Diplomats for a Day” programme
on 13 January 2022

On 13 January, High Commission of India invited members of the Brunei Youth Council (BYC) at the High Commission to provide them with a glimpse of the working and responsibilities of a diplomat. High Commission had joined hands with Brunei Youth Council to harness the youth and give them an overview about the overall functioning of a diplomatic mission with a view to encourage them take up responsibilities for a better tomorrow.

As part of the celebrations for Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav ‘India @75”, this initiative was taken by the High Commission to prepare youth for shouldering responsibilities and taking up their roles as the leaders of the future.  A salient message was to prepare oneself to embody the concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which means the world is a family’ and all should work for its welfare.

YB Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari, Member of Legislative Council (LegCo) and President of the Brunei Youth Council, who led the youth delegation, was received on arrival by H.E. Mr. Ajaneesh Kumar, High Commissioner of India to Brunei Darussalam.

High Commissioner briefly described the various tenets of diplomacy and provided insights into important aspects of the works usually handled by a diplomatic mission in its day to day work, namely, political, economic & commerce, tourism, cultural relations and people-to-people linkages, scholarships & capacity building programmes, consular matters, etc. He also shared tips drawn from his rich and varied experience as a senior diplomat.

The members of the Brunei Youth Council thanked the High Commissioner for an insightful discussion and congratulated him for a successful and fruitful tenure in Brunei.
