Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar - the architect of the Indian Constitution

On the occasion of 66th death anniversary of Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the High Commission today celebrated ‘Mahaparinirvan Divas’ to remember and pay tributes to one of its greatest leaders and the architect of the Indian Constitution. The event was celebrated at the High Commission as part of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” India@75 celebrations.

Paying tributes to Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar, High Commissioner Ajaneesh Kumar highlighted the principles and philosophy of Babasaheb and his contribution in making of the modern India. He also informed the august gathering about the pioneering role played by Babasaheb in drafting the Indian constitution as well as social movements for the upliftment of the women and least privileged and weaker sections of the society. Short documentaries including ‘Panchteerth’ on the life and philosophy of Dr. Ambedkar were played for the audience.

Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar not only served as India’s Law Ministerand was Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee to write India's new Constitution but had also played an important role in the setting up of the Reserve Bank of India.  He was also instrumental in leading a number of reforms for social justice, equality and education for the downtrodden and women, which have shaped the democratic fabric and societal contours of the country.
