High Commission of India Brunei Darussalam
ADVISORY

PHISHING TELEPHONE CALLS

It has come to the attention of the High Commission of India that the Indian community in Brunei Darussalam, is receiving phone calls purportedly from the phone numbers of the Brunei High Commission in India as well as MOFA Consular hotline number +673-8716001 and are being asked to give their personal details, including their passport details, on one pretext or the other. The caller identifies himself as a High Commission official, then asks for money and threatens with deportation and criminal cases.

The High Commission of India wishes to convey that it does not seek any personal information from any Indian national over phone and hence no information should be disclosed by any recipient of such phone calls. These calls are being made to elicit personal information from the targeted receiver by unscrupulous persons in a similar manner as a ‘Phishing Expedition’ over e-mails and internet sites.

All Indian nationals are advised firstly, not to pick up any call from no. +673- 8716001 and secondly, in case they pick up the call by mistake, not to part with any of their personal data or make money transfers.

Incidences of Indian nationals receiving such calls should be immediately brought to the notice of the High Commission at cons.brunei@mea.gov.in.
