Ground Breaking Ceremony for 'Chancery, Staff Residences and Auxiliary Facilities Building' and 'High Commissioner’s Residence' Project for High Commission of India in Brunei Darussalam

High Commission of India in Brunei Darussalam organized this afternoon the Ground Breaking Ceremony for the construction of its new Chancery, Staff Residences and Auxiliary Facilities Building at Lot No.62514 having an area of 2 acres.



The new Chancery is being constructed at Jalan Duta, Diplomatic Enclave adjacent to the U.S. Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan. On this occasion, the Guest of Honour was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Minister of Foreign Affairs II of Brunei Darussalam. A large number of members of Indian community and friends of India participated in the event. During the Ceremony, an all faiths religious service was organized. Prayers were performed by religious representatives of the Muslim, Hindu, Sikh and Christian communities.

2. This complex will comprise of a building having the offices for the High Commissioner and other officers & staff members of the Mission. There will be a separate Consular Section Hall catering to the needs of the applicants for visa and consular services. One Multi-purpose Hall with a capacity for almost 200 people will also be built at this venue which will be used for organising all kinds of functions including cultural, academic and commercial events both for the Mission as well as for the community. Behind the Chancery complex there will be two buildings constructed having seven residences of Indian officers and members of staff posted in this High Commission.

3. The High Commission also organized today the Ground Breaking Ceremony for construction of new Residence of High Commissioner of India in Brunei, which is located at Lot No.64081 at Simpang 336, Jalan Kebangsaan, Bandar Seri Begawan having an area of 0.99 acre. It will be a two-floor building having a large representational area, guest suite, master suite, inner courtyard, lawns, etc. A special feature of both the project buildings will be the use of red sandstone, representing roots of India. The lease for both the plots was signed in March 2010 for 99 years.

 


4. The construction work for these two projects started on 17 December 2020 beginning with the levelling of the land. The whole project at both sites is expected to be completed by middle of June 2022, i.e., within a period of 18 months from its start.


5. M/s. Arkitek RekaJaya is the Architect as well as Consultant and supervisor for the project while M/s. LCY Development Sdn Bhd is the Contractor.
