On the morning of 15 August 2025, the High Commission of India in Brunei Darussalam  commemorated India’s 79th Independence Day at the newly established Chancery Building in Jalan Duta, Bandar Seri Begawan. The event was a heartfelt tribute to India’s enduring legacy of freedom, sovereignty, and unity.

The ceremony commenced with His Excellency Shri Ramu Abbagani, High Commissioner, hoisting the Indian national flag, accompanied by the resonant singing of the National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana. The gathering of three hundred plus members of the Indian diaspora, school children, Persons of Indian Origin, and Friends of India, all united in honouring this historic milestone.

In his address, the High Commissioner shared excerpts from the President of India’s Address to the Nation, delivered on the eve of the 79th Independence Day. He reflected on India’s remarkable progress since independence, its strong bilateral ties with Brunei Darussalam, and paid homage to the sacrifices of freedom fighters who secured the nation’s liberty.

The event featured vibrant cultural programs, with captivating instrumental music, dance and singing performances by children and adults enthralling the audience. Guests also savoured an array of authentic Indian cuisine, celebrating the rich diversity of India’s culinary heritage.
